A problem-first guide for founders, digital nomads and new hires arriving in Malta. We start from the question you actually have, such as "what are the ways I can enter Malta for work?", and send you to the official page that answers it, instead of rewriting the rules ourselves.
How to read this guide
Each answer shows where it came from and how far we trust it:
- ✅ Verified: matches an official page we read on the date shown.
- 🟡 Needs checking: a relevant official page exists, but we haven't confirmed the details, or sources conflict.
- ⚪ No official source found: nobody official seems to answer this. Community experience welcome.
- 🔵 Unofficial source: a guide or community post, not a public authority. Useful, but check it.

- I'm a founder or freelancer moving to Malta: residency, company set-up, banking and tax, in order.
- I'm a digital nomad: the Nomad permit, tax, housing and daily life.
- I'm hiring someone, locally or from abroad: registration, permits, contracts and payroll.
- I'm not sure whether I'm EU or third-country national: which rules apply to you.
- I'm looking for funding: grants, accelerators and EU advice.
- I need somewhere to live: renting, buying and utilities.
- I'm moving with my family: residency for dependants, healthcare, schools and childcare, housing.
- I'm an angel investor: the Seed Investment Scheme, residence and tax programmes, and citizenship by merit.
What's inside
The topic pages below follow the order most people need them. The page Open questions and gaps lists everything we could not confirm, grouped by the office to ask. The page Sources lists the sites we read.
Help us improve it
If an office told you something different from what is written here, or you found the page that fills a gap, let the Malta Startup Space team know. Contradictions between official sources are some of the most useful things to document.
